Dr Alex Bailey

Dr Alex Bailey graduated in Clinical Sciences from the University of Leeds in 2003 and subsequently gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Systemic and Family Therapy and a Master’s in Education from Imperial College. He is currently working as a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry at Westminster Older Adults and Health Ageing Community Mental Health Team, where he has lead several service improvement initiatives. His previous appointments include Clinical Advisor to the NHS Medical Director at the Department of Health and Teaching Fellow at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. Teaching has always been an integral part of his practice and he is currently Foundation Champion for North West Thames Foundation School and Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College. He is also on the Old Age Faculty Executive at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has recently published a new edition of the popular book “Alzheimer’s at your fingertips”

Dr Brian Parsons

Dr Brian Parsons is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in the mental health of older adults. He studied Medicine at University College, Dublin. After completing his Medical and Surgical residency posts he trained in General Practice and obtained membership of the Irish College of General Practitioners. Dr Parsons then went on to train in psychiatry in Ireland, Australia and the United Kingdom gaining a CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry with an endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry. He took a substantive consultant post with Surrey & Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in 2007 where he is currently working as a Community Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist.

Dr Parsons has previously managed in-patients with functional mental illness and dementia, as well as providing Liaison Psychiatry services to St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey. He was the Trust Clinical Lead for the “Enhancing Quality Programme for Dementia” and his Memory Service has been accredited as “Excellent” by the Memory Services National Accreditation Programme (Royal College of Psychiatrists) in 2015.

Dr Parsons has recently completed a four year term as an Elected Member of the Executive Committee of the South East Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2002 and was awarded a Higher Diploma in Healthcare Risk Management in 2003.

Dr Ramin Nilforooshan

Dr Ramin Nilforooshan is a Consultant Psychiatrist, specialising in Older Adult Mental Health. He completed his psychiatric training in Guy’s and Maudsley Rotation and has been a Consultant Psychiatrist for Older Adults in Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust since 2011 and is now also Associate Medical Director for research and development.

He is specialty lead for dementia research for Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at University of Surrey and Senior Research Fellow at King’s College London.

Dr Ioana Popescu

Dr Ioana Popescu initially qualified in General Medicine from the University of Bucharest and went on to graduate with merit from her MSc in Clinical Gerontology at King’s College London. She completed her Training in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry in March 2004. Alongside her work with Red & Yellow, she is a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist for the Dementia and Cognitive Impairment Service at Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust, as well as the Vice-chair of the trust’s Drugs and Therapies Committee. She has previously worked at various hospitals across London including Guy’s and St Thomas’ and The Royal Free. She is a member of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry at the Royal College of Psychiatrists and was awarded The Mohsen Naguib prize for best new research presentation by trainees. She holds an honorary research contract at the Institute of Psychiatry and her research includes the management of dementia in developing countries. She has also been published in the American Journal of Psychiatry and contributed a chapter to the Pocket Psychiatry 2nd Edition of Psychiatric Disorders in Later Life.

Dr Farooq Khan

Dr Khan works as Consultant Psychiatrist at the Birmingham and Solihull NHS Mental Health Foundation Trust. Dr Khan has outstanding qualifications including Masters in Psychiatry, MRCPsych, he is the Fellow at the Indian Psychiatric Society and holds Masters in Medical Education. He had a comprehensive and wide ranged professional experience of working in adult, old age, child, alcohol and substance use, learning disability, assertive outreach and Forensic Psychiatry right from the beginning of his career in psychiatry before aspiring to become expert in older people’s mental health problems.

Dr Khan is a member of editorial review board of a Medical Journal and has more than 30 publications in National and International Medical Journals. Dr Khan has broad based research experience both being the lead and co-investigator in number of projects (completed and ongoing). All of these projects are clinical and related to both the workplace and academic institutions. Dr Khan has presented papers / posters in more than 30 National and International Conferences winning medals and awards.

Dr Khan is the Regional Representative of for Royal College of Psychiatrists – West Midlands Region for Faculty of Old age Psychiatry.

Dr Khan holds a Senior Lecturer post at the University of Chester, he is Hon Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Aston Medical School and also Senior Clinical Examiner at the Birmingham Medical School (Psychiatry).

Dr Victor Aziz

Dr Aziz is a consultant psychiatrist specialising in older adults’ mental health. He qualified as a doctor from Alexandria University Medical School, Egypt in 1990. He undertook training in psychiatry in Alexandria Egypt before training in the UK in 1994. Dr Aziz was trained in Dartford where the local rotations link with Guys and St Thomas’s and Maudsley Hospital rotations. Dr Aziz took his higher training is South Wales as part of Wales Deanery rotation in both old age and general adult psychiatry before being appointed as a consultant psychiatrist.

Dr Aziz has been appointed as a consultant psychiatrist in Cwm Taf University health board since 2006. He was appointed as honorary senior lecturer with Cardiff University Medical School and was responsible for Cwm Taf Undergraduate Department. He has a doctorate degree in psychiatry and a degree in medical education.

Dr Aziz was elected as chair of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry, Royal College of Psychiatrists-Welsh Division in 2013 and as the Wales Deanery School of Psychiatry Quality Lead in 2016. He also sits on the Welsh Government Speciality Advisory Committee-Old Age and on the Education Training Committee of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. His work both in the College, Medical Education field and with the Wales Government has helped push the quality of patients’ care forward.
