Dr James Warner


Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Warner is a consultant psychiatrist specialising in older adult’s mental health. He qualified as a doctor from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1986. After further training as a physician he undertook training in psychiatry in Liverpool before a series of academic appointments at Charing Cross Hospital, Royal Free Hospital and then Imperial College London.

He has been a consultant psychiatrist at Central North West London Foundation Trust since 1998 specialising in diagnosis and treatment of dementia, depression, psychosis and other mental illnesses. His training as a physician as well as a psychiatrist enables me to provide holistic care for my patients.

He was elected as chair of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry at the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2012, he is the UK representative for Old Age Psychiatry in the World Psychiatric Association and was appointed National Professional Advisor for old age psychiatry at the Care Quality Commission in 2014. He is also the Medical Director of Red & Yellow Care.

Expertise

James is specialised in the diagnosis and treatment of older adults (aged over 50) with a wide range of conditions including:

  • Anxiety states including panic disorder and generalised anxiety
  • Schizophrenia and other causes of psychosis

Research and Publications

Dr Warner an honorary reader in psychiatry at Imperial College London. His academic interests include research and teaching. He has led several research projects in mental health, dementia and mental capacity. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and co-authored three books. Selected publications include:

James provides thorough diagnostic assessments, treatment and ongoing reviews. He aims to see you within a matter of days from referral and can see you at your home or at our consulting rooms.

Appointment prices

Initial assessment of 90 minutes incl. report, priced at £450.

Comprehensive diagnostic & capacity assessment of 120 minutes incl. report, priced at £750.

Optional follow-ups at £300 for 60 minutes, and £200 for 30 minutes.

Home visit supplements starting from £100.
